You make sure your whole family is in clean clothes, possibly even ironed, you pile out of the vehicle & look around wondering how this is going to go... First things first, you can take a deep breath and let it out. This is going to be fun!  Your 6-year-old heads straight for the creek, you envision soggy shoes and sticks ruining the group shot; I envision a kid finally set free in nature - the glee of freedom shines out so bright it has star power and I just have to snap a candid of that grin.

It may feel like herding feral cats at times (I know my own family photos always do!) but you can rest easy.  I'm on it.  I have a mental flow of which shots to get first while everyone's a little nervous and on their best behavior.  I know which prompts to give that will bring out natural laughs, which kid needs to move around for a few minutes before the next shot.  If you relax into your session, I'll follow my mental map to gather together a gallery of photos that you'll be smiling through from beginning to end.

All of the planning & shopping & bribing that had to happen to get your group here is in the past.  Now that you're actually here, you're going to look around and marvel at the mystery of this amazing family you get to be a part of.  You'll see chaos, yes, but you'll also see the reason why it's worth the effort - these crazies are yours in a way no one else can be.  You'll catch yourself feeling thankful, grounded & at peace with these beautiful people you get to call family.
