Because someday the in-between candid moments will matter just as much as the portraits.
What is an extended family session going to be like?
While my regular family sessions zoom in and focus on the connections between the people who live life together, an extended family session zooms out to capture the whole family dynamic.
We'll start with the big group shot (my record is 38!) and then work our way down—from grandparents and grandkids to individual family units. Along the way, we'll capture the in-between moments, too: cousins hugging, brother-in-laws skipping rocks, and the ladies using hand-held fans to keep from sweating their makeup off.
Because that's the thing about an extended family session: the gathering itself is worth remembering.
Who knows how long it will be until everyone is together again? By then, the babies will be kids, the dads might have a few more gray beard hairs, and you'll be recreating that cousin lineup from tallest to shortest.
This group of your people is precious to you, not just individually, but as a whole. You'll get to see the relationships that have grown and changed since the last time everyone was together and wonder where the time went.
Looking back at these photographs will be like holding a little piece of this moment in your hands.
